What Exactly Is Soy Wax?

Soy wax candles are created with soy wax. Soy wax is a kind of vegetable wax made from soybean oil. After harvesting, soybeans are washed, dehulled, split, and rolled into flecks. The oil is then removed and hydrogenated from these specks. Unsaturated fatty acids in the oil are saturated throughout the process, changing the melting point substantially. At room temperature, it solidifies.

Soy Wax’s History

Surprisingly, soy wax flakes were created in 1996 by a group of Purdue University students. The pupils were required to create a birthday candle out of a sustainable resource. They went for soybean oil.

Pure integrity candles did not exist at the time. There was no “soy candle” firm on the internet at the time. We had no idea that after reading this essay, we would one day have a candle business! Did you know that when this study was issued, we were one of the first soy firms to go online? That’s cool, huh?

Soy Wax Advantages

  • Soy wax is generated from a vegetable (soybeans), whereas paraffin wax is obtained from petroleum (a refined gasoline product).
  • Soy wax is a sustainable natural resource.
  • Soy wax is biodegradable and easy to clean with soap and water.
  • Because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, soy candles burn slower or longer than paraffin candles.
  • Soy wax produces no petro soot when burned, resulting in petro soot-free candles. Petro-soot is used to burn paraffin candles.

There are several advantages to utilizing soy wax, but what truly distinguishes our candles from other paraffin and soy candles.

Other Factors To Consider

Even if you decide to switch to hand-poured soy candles, there are an overwhelming amount of options on the market. While soy wax is harmless, some candles may include other ingredients that are hazardous to your health. Before purchasing a new soy-based candle, there are a few things you should ask yourself.

Is the dye safe to use? Soy wax comes in a natural cream tint, but coloured candles are available in a variety of colours. While colourful candles are attractive, several colours contain hazardous substances that can be harmful if breathed. Look for candles made with safe, natural colours, or buy from respected makers that utilize safe artificial pigments.

Is the wick composed of a safe substance? Not all wicks are created equal, and some might even be dangerous to your health. Many candles employ a cored wick, which is made of cotton wrapped around a metal core. Lead was long employed as a primary component in these cored wicks, but the discovery of lead poisoning resulted in stronger rules prohibiting their usage.

When it comes to wicks, choose a non-cored kind composed of hemp or cotton. These are typically non-polluting and safe to burn. You maintain your candle burning evenly, no matter what type of wick you choose, be sure to cut it to 18″. Keeping the wick at the proper length might also assist to minimize residue building around the candle.
